Welcome to Victoria Urban Sketchers

Victoria Urban Sketchers is a chapter of Urban Sketchers. The mission of Urban Sketchers is to raise the artistic, storytelling and educational value of location drawing, promoting its practice and connecting people around the world who draw on location where they live and travel. We aim to show the world, one drawing at a time.

The Urban Sketchers Manifesto
1. We draw on location, indoors or out, capturing what we see from direct observation.
2. Our drawings tell the story of our surroundings, the places we live and where we travel.
3. Our drawings are a record of time and place.
4. We are truthful to the scenes we witness.
5. We use any kind of media and cherish our individual styles.
6. We support each other and draw together.
7. We share our drawings online.
8. We show the world, one drawing at a time.

We usually sketch buildings, areas and people but sometimes a location is a beach, a bridge, a park or a graveyard. Winter months may find us inside a cafe, a market, a gallery, a museum, a pub. We find visual, varied and sometimes challenging subjects. Artists of all ages are asked to bring a sketchbook or artist paper as well as pencils, pens and paint, if needed.

We live in a "rain forest" which subjects us to the odd shower, may we suggest bringing an umbrella or a poncho. Just in case. May we suggest a large brimmed hat to protect you from the sun and perhaps a bottle of water. If it's cool, bring warm. A small fold-up camp stool is ideal for your sketching comfort.

After a two hour sketch we usually find a local coffeehouse or a pub for a gathering to talk art and inspiration and to take pictures of our creations for this web site (your choice). Some of us also return to sketch some more.

Join us and have a great time meeting new people and exercise that creative passion. All levels of experience are welcome, including none. Beginners are especially encouraged to participate. It's all about being a part of something and having fun while learning. As a plus, we have some members who are really good artists you can observe.

A special welcome to Urban Sketchers from around the world:
